Victorian Home in Richmond

We understand that Victorian homes require a different approach to modern builds. Plaster that has settled for over a century needs careful assessment before any paint is applied. In the opening days, Nischal and the team focused on repairing cracks, smoothing uneven surfaces, and sanding back problem areas. Professional dust extraction sanding systems were used throughout preparation to minimise airborne particles and protect the home during restoration work.

Before any surface work began, we laid heavy duty floor and carpet protection throughout the property. Masking tapes were selected based on the needs of each surface, low tack tape for fragile cornices and stronger options for kitchen cabinetry. This methodical approach ensured the home’s original features were protected from start to finish. We used premium materials throughout the interiors, including Farrow & Ball paints.

The cornices presented a particular challenge. Decades of built-up paint had softened their fine detailing, so we carefully stripped back the layers and applied new coats thinly to restore sharp lines and definition. The same process was used on the ceiling roses, bringing their original character back into focus.

We completed the project within the agreed one month timeframe. The hallway, so important in setting expectations for a period home, was transformed from dim and dated into a bright, welcoming space. The kitchen cabinets looked newly installed rather than refinished, and the bedrooms felt lighter and more open, with clean wall colours and finely finished woodwork.
