Scope: Restore Sash windows, Stucco, Painting & Decorating.

Duration: 2 weeks

About the Project

The client initially reached out to us via Google for an assessment and quotation concerning exterior renovations. Upon conducting a thorough survey, it became evident that the windows were in a state of disrepair, requiring urgent attention and maintenance. Following discussions regarding the project scope, material options, paint selection, and past maintenance history, it was revealed that painting and decorating had been undertaken just one year before.

Further inquiry revealed that the previous painters and decorators had recommended a water-based matte paint for the exterior windows. Given the current state of the window, it is apparent that the preparation, choice of paints, and material utilised in the previous job were inadequate. Within the span of a year, the investment and efforts expended have been rendered futile as the paint deteriorated, showing signs of fading, peeling, and cracking across all windows.

This failure in paint adhesion not only compromises the aesthetic appeal but also leaves the windows vulnerable to the adverse effects of out door elements, intensifying their deterioration. It is imperative to address these issues promptly to ensure the long-term integrity and functionality of the windows.

Our team comprises seasoned painters and decorators boasting over five decades of collective experience, equipped with comprehensive expertise in paints and materials. While painting itself may seem straightforward, we understand that meticulous preparation and a profound understanding of paints and materials are paramount. It is during these preparatory stages that the foundation for a successful project is laid, ultimately mitigating the risk of costly errors, such as the one encountered in this instance. By leveraging our wealth of knowledge and exercising diligence and patience in preparation, we ensure not only superior results but also significant cost savings in the long run.

Our Suggestions and Execution for the Project

In our professional recommendation and subsequent execution, we advised our clients on a comprehensive approach to address the issue afflicting their windows for a durable and aesthetically pleasing outcome.

Firstly, we initiated the process by meticulously sanding the windows to eliminate any traces of flaking or peeling paint, thereby establishing a smooth surface for subsequent treatments. Addressing structural integrity, we diligently removed and treated any areas of rotten wood by either filling or replacing the affected sections as deemed necessary to strengthen the window framework against further deterioration.

Attention to detail was paramount as we proceeded to fill any holes, gaps, or cracks around the windows and stucco, enhancing both aesthetic appeal and weather resistance of the exteriors. Before application, surfaces underwent thorough cleansing through pressure washing with sugar soap to ensure optimal adhesion of subsequent coatings.

We carefully sealed the window glass and frame using glazing putty to enhance longevity. The application of two coats of primer serves as a foundational step to enhance adhesion and durability, providing a stable base for the final layers of paint.

Subsequently, we applied two coats of high-quality paint to both the windows and stucco surfaces for uniform coverage and a pristine finish. Our commitment to professional standards and attention to detail throughout each step of the process resulted in a successful restoration. Our experts effectively revitalised the exterior aesthetic while providing long-lasting protection against the elements.
